No Quiosque do Refresco com o {Pano p´ra Mangas}
10/13/11

When did your passion about “patchland” start?
I had never thought I could do it until one afternoon I went to a friend’s house with a couple of fabrics and my sewing machine and she taught me some basic blocks. Since them I’ve been improving my skills and I always try to make it better. I’ve always liked new challenges and every quilt I make is like a new goal I want to achieve.
Why the name ‘pano p’ra mangas’?
This name is a result of a brainstorming week. When we decided to start this blog, back in 2005, we weren’t sure how to call it. We had several lists of possible names but none fitted properly as one day we were working with glass and the next day we could be painting silk. So, one afternoon, through the middle of a conversation the sentence “Mas o que nós fazemos dá pano p’ra mangas!” came up and suddenly we had found the right name for our blog! It was a sort of a “eureka” moment J
What do you most love doing in your “patchland”?
No doubt that it is choosing the fabrics and putting all them together. I also like to look at the final product – I always think that it wasn’t made by me.

This is a difficult question to answer. The inspiration can come from anything around us: a simple sentence, a colour combination, a pattern, a magazine or a book, people and things we spot on the streets. Anything, really!
Well, the answer is yes! We just don’t know what about. The only thing we are sure about it is that I’ll write it and Vânia will illustrate it.

Obrigada Margarida e Vânia!
nota: as peças estão disponíveis para venda no blog do pano p´ra mangas, basta contactarem através do email!

hello lovely friends! how is your week going? mine is going well, and just today i have this little time to write to you, between work, zig João & my friends sometimes it is not easy. but today we have a special post, an amazing interview with a lovely & brilliant photographer, miss {twiggs} from {a lomo love affair}. i´m sure most of you know her work. This was her second shop with a completely different style but still has her unique touch.

When did your passion about photography start?
hello sílvia, how are you? thank you so much for this lovely invitation, it is such an honor! well, my passion about photography began a few years ago, when I was spending Christmas in new york, and someone really important gave me my first point-and-shoot for Christmas present. I was in the perfect city to start shooting. and from then on, it didn’t stop… it became usual for me and my friends, that I always carried a camera with me! but when I think about my childhood, I can also remember me holding a film camera, given by the very same person, and taking pictures of the family together!
Why the name {a lomo love affair}?
I love different names, with love, romance or some attitude in the middle! I love lomo cameras… I got one on my first Christmas with Mr Twiggs. And it was such a love affair with it, because it became my best friend, though lomography may be a bit hard to explain to others! I had decided to create a tumblr account just to share my lomos… and though the first name was not this one, soon it hit me. it was a love affair!
What inspires you in your photography is:
everything that surrounds me. this seems the most common answer photographers give, but everything does inspire us. the people that cross my path… the street life… flowers… gardens… Lisbon and the places I visit.
What do you most love shooting?
the small details! though I like to take pictures to beautiful landscapes, I only do it to try different things for myself. but soon after buying the new camera, I soon realized that I might be a macro lady! I love finding small things in the nature mostly. When I get asked what do I shoot, it’s always hard for me to answer… because my photography is made from what is in front of me, so life happening in front of me is what I shoot.
Define your photography in three words.
Romance & Delicateness meets a Happy Life! (technically these are way more than three words, I know!)
Finally, what advice would you give for someone new in photographyland?
Explore, explore, explore, do not give up and make the best of what you have! And make it manually! I had a point-and-shoot camera for years, it was hard for me to see all those magnificent images taken with reflex professional cameras, but I had no choice (nor the money), so I had to learn everything to make my best! there is so much you can learn from others just by looking… and trying. and then, put yourself into some challenges and learn the challenges your camera faces, to avoid them! As they usually say, what makes an excellent photographer is not the camera… but the eyes!

When did your passion about photography start?
My dad has always been interested in photography and, since I love my dad, I adopted his hobby as well. My interest really peaked a few years ago when I began collecting vintage items. I thought they were so pretty and full of character and I began photographing them: I would set up a few objects so they appeared visually appealing and snap some photos. “dear machine” has developed from that little project.
What inspires you in your photography is:
I’m inspired by all of the visual arts. There are some fabulous photographers on Etsy that have inspired me quite a bit, such as Elle Moss, Lolas Room, & Abby Try Again. I also love perusing blogs based on craft, design, fashion and art.
What do you most love shooting?
Vintage objects, food, my kitties & my nephew.

When did your passion about photography start?
In college I assisted a videographer at a business convention by photographing VIPs and public speakers. I had no idea what I was doing at the time, but I instantly fell in love with finding different angles and working with other artists. When I got home I bought myself a book on digital photography and devoured it! I knew I had found my passion. :)
What inspires you in your photography is:
I am consistently inspired by the gorgeous, golden, hazy light that comes right before sunset. It makes me giddy with excitement!
What do you most love shooting?
Without a doubt, florals. I also truly love wedding photography...working with couples on the happiest day of their lives is exhilarating!
Define your photography in three words:
shabby chic, delicate, & romantic
thank you so much Cate!

Thanks to "her", I can express feelings and color my life.
I enjoy discovering things, looking into forbidden places, into those mysterious corners not all deign to look: they are not interested. Those tiny spaces do not even exist for many people, but they do for me.
I stop to look at the trail left by the ants, I feed the doves while butterflies sing songs in my ears, my cats and I tell each other secrets and try to decode the hidden messages drawn by the clouds.
Inside me, there is a world, outside me, another.
They are both different, they both have mysteries.
As many mysteries as stars are in the sky.
Define your photography in three words: Sweet, Dreamy and Feminine
"I definitely think there are two kinds of people: those who walk in a hurry through life and those who stop and notice every detail on the way."
thank you Yvette & keep on with your wonderful work!
